I see much ado about football realignment happening, who's moving up, who's moving down. When does realignment happen for music regions? We already have a very competitive 6A region, with a couple of 5A powerhouses about to move up.

UIL has always worked with TMEA on music alignments. I would expect based on the last go around we won't get our information until sometime after TMEA with that. That was about when we learned Region 13 would go to another Area instead of E this past time for marching contest. (It didn't with ATSSB partially because of how late that info came)
The alignment hasn't changed much recently, but personally I think it's time for some adjustments to be made again. Down in the Corpus area we have 4 - 5A's dropping down to 4A in Region 14. That's taken the local 5A population from being 14 in the northern part of this region ten years ago, down to to 7 I believe off the top of my head. More if you include Rockport dropping down about 15 years ago, and HM King 13 or so ago.
We've dropped a ton of the 4As, or 'old 3As' down into the current 3A pot now too. It's enough that before they pulled Region 13 out, both 4A and 3A contests were regularly 32-34 bands for Area Marching. Now that more have dropped down we could very well be back at 30+ bands at both again.
Dividing things up into additional areas is something I do hope UIL/TMEA will look at.
What really needs to be done is we need to add more areas for 4a and lower. As someone in region 13, its not fun driving from Houston to Corpus or Austin like we have to now (and the 3a's went all the way to Waco!).
I agree, especially with all of the move downs from 5a to 4a, and 4as to 3as in the past few realignments it’s time for small schools to do more splits like the 5a/6a areas.
Not yet justifiable for 2a or 1a, but 3a/4a would benefit.
