My cheerleader sponsor asked me what she needs to do to get the rights to a specific pop song for their spirit competitions. I'm familiar with getting an arrangement license for marching band, but don't know what kind of license she would need to get to use a recording for cheer.
Also, would she have to go through (ugh) Tresona, or is there somewhere else I should send her?

It's all in the rules and regulations. In the past, because of the way the rules are laid out, we have found college band recordings of our stand tunes for them to use, because if they used our recording, we'd have go through Tresona. Songs we have found include the Horse, the Hey Song, Pretty Fly for a White Guy. Then, you just have to show the receipt from Apple Music or Amazon, or wherever you purchased the song.
