We are a 3A school. We are 20 student over the 2A bracket. The last school I was at was a 3A that was in the middle of the bracket. So here is what I plan for and what I have been able to achieve.
My goal as a 3A is to keep 15 students per grade level. At my current job, small 3A we are just now achieving that. I usually start most of the class in beginning band. I usually lose a fourth by the 7th grade and another 4th by the 8th grade. Leaving me with half of what I started. If things go well, I would move up at least 20 kids. Here in the small school we will have that goal of 60 in HS band in two years. At my last school I had over 100 in the HS band still 3A. But I was there for 14 years so I didn't have to build except for the beginning.
So in my perspective, 60 is a good number in 3A. I try to keep at least 15 per class. Usually it goes over 15. But I have learned over the years to not worry about numbers. Just do the best with what you have. Appreciate the kids that have chosen your class.
