Is it ok to tune on stage?
Is it ok to play an 8 measure choral prior to performance on stage?

I have heard some rough chorales over the years so make sure it's the best thing they do.

I would consider just playing a few concert F's instead.

As far as tuning, the bulk of your tuning should be done in the warmup room. If you notice something during your first piece then address it.

It's supposed to be that you can do anything on the stage before you're announced, so tuning and a chorale are allowed, but typically judges will get their first impression from that sound.

I'd say do the individually tuning at the warm up room and just do some quick checks on the stage. You really want to make sure the balance is okay and no one is sticking out.

1. Yes, especially if you notice an issue. Even between songs.

2. Absolutely. Your kids need to learn what the hall sounds like. I actually feel that every band needs a stage chorale at UIL.
