Percussion SR suggestions

I have a Sub NV that will read a level 4. I have enough bodies to “cover” the parts BUT I really only have two solid players. One of those players will play snare but I’m torn on where I should put the other one: timpani or bells?
My flutes are very weak so I may need the bells to back them up, but I feel like the timpani is more important?
Any suggestions?

If you have 2 solid players I’d recommend putting them on snare drum and bass drum and really rehearse having them watch the conductor.

Having a rock solid engine room will keep just about any sub NV band together. But to answer your question Timpani will definitely improve the overall ensemble sound significantly more than other perc instrument, as long as your student is playing with a good touch.

Agree… snare and bass are most important.
