Why is Veterans Day a work day in school systems, but every other Federal holiday isn't?

Mine takes it off or the closest school date to the actual holiday. They didn't used to do this, but we are now a "Purple Star District" (look it up) and the military is a big part of our community.

I see a lot more districts switching to having election day off (especially when they are trying to pass a bond) so that kind of fluctuates. I think November just has a lot of days off already.

Probably because there aren't many school attendees that are veterans.
And, given how school calendars were originally set up, most teachers weren't either, since many teachers were female.
Plus, for one last thing, Thanksgiving is usually within a few days of Veterans Day - at most two weeks out. And teachers aren't the only people who aren't off on VD - neither is the financial industry. The NYSE works that day too.
For what it's worth, here's the list of Federal Holidays:
New Year's Day (January 1). Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. (Third Monday in January). Washington's Birthday (Third Monday in February). Memorial Day (Last Monday in May). Juneteenth National Independence Day (June 19). Independence Day (July 4). Labor Day (First Monday in September). Columbus Day (Second Monday in October). Veterans Day (November 11). Thanksgiving Day (Fourth Thursday in November). Christmas Day (December 25).
NY Day and Christmas are nearly always Winter Break in schools because many families travel. Same with Thanksgiving.
I've never been in a school that didn't take off for MLK - but in some quite backwards parts of this country, they still celebrated Robert E. Lee that day instead until a few years ago. And it wouldn't surprise me to see some areas try to roll this back, with the anti-DEI nonsense.
I've never been off for Washington's Birthday. Not once. President's Day, yes, but not Washington's Birthday. And even then, I haven't been off for President's Day in about fifteen years.
School is nearly always out prior to Memorial Day, leaving that, Flag Day, Juneteenth, and Independence Day off of school calendars. However I *have* had to go to school once or twice on Memorial Day due to bad weather days, but now that they allow minutes rather than *days* on the school calendar I haven't seen that in a while.
That leaves Labor Day, in which *nearly everyone* is off work or getting holiday pay, Columbus Day, when we usually all are working unless you live near the State Fair, and then Veterans Day, which isn't usually held as an off-school holiday because of reasons mentioned above.
