I know that judges get workshops, but why doesn't TMAA/UIL offer workshops for band directors? It sure would be nice to be understand how/what they are looking for.

I attended the TMAA Clinics for Concert Band and Marching Band at TBA last year to gain further insight as a director and not as someone who was ready to start judging others.
Andy Sealy and Mike Howard did a great job breaking down different aspects of the rubric and what they actually mean, with audio and visual examples. The crowd was genuinely interested in learning and the sessions went by very quickly. I walked away with multiple concrete ideas to apply to my teaching immediately.

Anyone can pay to attend the judge training for UIL, and they openly post the Area Training on YouTube each year.
