Have you been in a situation where: Your current work situation has made you absolutely hate every part of this job BUT You know that there is a big chance of it getting better soon (staff changes, promotion, etc.)?
If you understand what I'm talking about - have you decided to stick it out even with the "fire" for the job being out? Sure, things may get better, but I have absolutely no desire to do this anymore. Is there some wise thing a band director Yoda told you that helped you? Or did you just stick it out and eventually it was ok?
In this moment, I cannot imagine continuing to do this. I know it may be a lot better in a few months, but I can't say that for sure. Stress in this job for me seems to just replace itself with other stress about a different part of the job if one stress goes away.
I don't really know what I'm asking for. Just tired of feeling like this.
I held on for a couple of years expecting things to get better with certain "people" who run the district. Instead, it took a nosedive. I loved working with the band and had a great time with them. But it was causing all kinds of problems with me (both health and mental). This past year I threw in the towel. The hardest thing was telling the kids. We had our emotional goodbyes, but life went on. I saw a quote here some years back that pretty much summarizes how I feel. "I miss it every day. I never want to go back."
If you really feel it'll get better, stick it out. But if it's taking a toll on you, maybe you can move on. I wish you all the best.
You absolutely hate every part of this job, but YOU KNOW there is A BIG CHANCE of it getting better SOON. (emphasis added)
Well, I like big chances. If the odds are indeed strongly in your favor hang in there, especially since it will happen soon. The only thing that isn't clear is how much better will it get. A little? A lot? Enough?
This thing you're feeling got better when I realized that this was my job and I was making it my life. I still care, but I don't let things get to me like they used to.
