Do you need to march on and off the field?

I'm not from this state, so I wanted to know if this is expected. Most of the YouTube videos start after they're on the field. We are a corps-style 1A group if that helps.

This has evolved due to props, intricacies of drill, electronics on sideline, etc... Short answer, you do you. A long time ago, we used to march on and then move to set 1. In the 90s, guys started warming up in concert arcs and "wandering" to set 1. After that it all changed. Focus on the performance part.

Some areas of Texas have different traditions than others. But, in reality...no, you don't

However, whatever you do, have a plan and practice it!

Due to nearly all of my kids carrying/pushing props, we have stopped doing a formal march onto the field for most of the last ten years. You are not technically judged during your 5-minute setup, and early on, the judges are most likely busy finishing up with comments or grabbing a drink/snack.

Those who formally march on still have to do some solid marching, though, as a few judges will mentally note the struggling marchers. We're a 3A band.

No. I have not marched onto the field in several years.

Not necessary at all. Some years we march on, some years we just walk to set 1. Depends on what set 1 looks like.

It's your band. You can do what you want to get on and off the field. The only thing you *have* to do is get on and off the field in the time allotted.
