Well, after being on the fence I got an email that was the tip of the iceberg (an irate parent because we are requesting $100 to feed her kid 3 meals a day, and snacks for 5 days... for a trip in a year....she's contacting the news, school board....hell, she might call the president ). I've already been treading water and now the ship is going down. I have the same reasons as every one else- I'm just done, I'm tired, I'm out. I see my friends my age out living and all I do is work work work. I did a little over a decade in the classroom. Let's move on to the point of this post...
What careers are people leaving our profession able to transition to? Are there any upfront needs like certifications or certificates? What is the quickest transition I can make to have income (preferably not too big of a pay cut)?
Obviously you are still on TYB because you are still teaching, but have you done any research on this topic and if so- help me out! I'm ready to pass the baton on to the next young buck!
IF you are certified in one subject in Texas you can take a test and become certified in another subject. Classroom teachers have their fires to put out also.
Sorry to hear about that. I feel like the news wouldn't accept her story once they hear all the details, or it would be pretty satisfying to see the whole world question why someone's mad about this.
I can't remember jobs outside of teaching people have gone to, but I've heard a lot of people transitioning to elementary general music and enjoying it a lot more. Less time around school, no trips to worry about, don't really have to deal with parents.
Hope you find the right place for you. Wish parents would understand how poorly they handle things.
