Ocean Drum and Ship’s Bell?

Has anyone done “On The Kerry Shore” by Jack Wilds? If so…

What size ocean drum did you use, and where did you get the ship’s bell? Thanks in advance!

For a ship's bell, I once used an old riding lawnmower blade, dulled with a file and hung from a cymbal stand. The price point and sound met the expectation.

I'll second DesertJazz's advice about the bass drum heads. That's exactly what I did when we performed "On the Kerry Shore." As to the ship's bell, I actually used a brake drum we had that was particularly resonant.

First, Steve Weiss Music sells ships bells, easiest place to get one!

Next with the ocean drum, any chance you have some old marching bass drum heads around? 18-22” ones are probably the best if you do. Take the pair of heads, put buck shot, or BBs inside of them and then run electrical tape around the outside edge to seal it. Way more effective, and cost effective, than the ones you buy in my opinion.

LP Ice bell is a great-sounding ship bell.

I took a quick look at the Remo ocean drums and they seem to all be 16". Every remo ocean drum I have used sounds great.

I second the LP ice bell for ship’s bell. Worked for us!
