Is this happening at your school too?

Ever since we had those bad weather days late January, it feels like the behavior of my school has been declining substantially. Almost a fight every day. What's going on?

Yes, Yes and yes. Every single year. In fact for me it feels like its been worse the last couple of years since covid hit....

I actually haven't noticed this year. It's been quiet. A little too quiet, mhmmmm

I feel like it's been worse since COVID...kids seem to be more immature every year with kids behaving in a way that is show less and less parenting going on.

All student behaviors have been getting worse since 2020.

You took kids out of their support environments and isolated them for eighteen months, then didn't do any real counseling or emotional support for 99% of students when they came back to school.

This is when all sorts of behaviors happen especially with younger kids. The psychological side of it is lack of sun due to shorter days. The lack of sunlight while also spending more time doing less because of cold temperatures has an impact on behavior and mental health. Combine that with more of the middle school kids hitting even more levels of raging hormones as the year progresses and you have the absolutely typical January, February, March where the kids seem to be losing their minds but in reality it happens every year and is perfectly normal, predictable, explainable and unpreventable. Kids will be kids and there is nothing we can do to change it, (and no, it wasn't better back in the day because the science hasn't changed). Until we find away to have 15 hours of sunlight every single day there will always be swings.

Yup. A week hasn't gone by since we got back after the winter break that there hasn't been a band kid in ISS or suspended. My top flute player is in rebound until two days before UIL. Heck, we even had a fight in the band hall between two beginners on a day we were gone for TMEA. I've got three years left but I don't know if I can make it.

It's almost like it's almost Spring, and this happens every year around now ..
