We are getting a new office and furniture will be part of the deal. What piece of office furniture can you not live without besides a desk and comfortable chair?

Maybe its because I'm a millennial and spent a lot of time in front of my computer at home... But my dual monitor setup (with a dedicated stand)

That is a huge production boost for me.

I don’t know if you can include this item as “furniture” for your new office, but I personally would sit on a folding chair every day if it meant I had a good and capable copy machine.

Find the absolutely lowest-tech chair you can.

90% of office chairs sold by places like Office Depot have buried somewhere in their description words like "For 2-4 hours of sitting per day" .. and they last about a year or two at that rate.

Even the "heavy duty" chairs are for 6-8 hours per day.

The most common point of failure (besides cheap plastic parts) is the pneumatic tube underneath, which WILL break on every office chair if you weigh more than 185 pounds.

Find a solid wood constructed upholstered (not memory foam!) chair if you can. A banker's chair like this one can have a pad added to the seat but it'll last for another 60 years just like it's already lasted that long.

If you figure a 30 minute lunch, 90 minute conference period, and 20-30 mins before and after school, that’s about 3 hours on a block schedule day.

Those “2-4 hour” chairs will wear out in months. Especially if you weigh more than 150 pounds, which is what they’re rated for.
