A few weeks in and schedules are settling, but I lost a lot of kids to other schools and my 8th Graders are now the kids that started 100% virtual with no instruments and had the most lax school attendance policies I've ever seen. Our school scheduling has been rough at best since COVID and so a lot of these kids are also back in Band after being out for a year or after doing a second year of beginner band or who knows what. It's also heavily 7th grade this year. |
TO be clear - These are mostly great kids and I'm not at all unhappy with them, but them's the breaks and we've gotta make a go of it.
Looking for music to help them be successful, bonus points for PML lit for UIL. We're a small 2C.
2 flutes (weak)
3 clarinets (nice, but only below the break)
1 bass clarinet (same)
4 altos (strong to okay)
1 tenor (adjusting, but making it)
1 bari (same)
5 trumpets (strong to okay)
4 bones (range from strong to very weak)
2 baritones (strong to okay)
1 tuba (okay when he feels like it)
2-3 perc (strong rhythms, weak mallets)
Toying with the idea of skipping UIL, but that's a long way from now and we have time to grow. Maybe some new
