Help me with recorded playing tests

The past several years we've been doing playing tests by having kids record on iPods. I've been encouraging them to record themselves at home.

They have a LOT of trouble sending them to me. Apparently the files are too large?? Very frustrating.

I need suggestions please.

We've tried email, Remind app and Google. Each has their challenges. We aren't currently paying for Smartmusic.

Transferring big files is a pain. If your kids reliably have internet access and technology, something like Flipgrid is great for video tests. My kids use either their school-issued Chromebooks or their own phones and it's pretty reliable.

Flipgrid. Kids can record directly in the app (or website) or they can upload their own video. Plus all the videos are in one place and I just click next. If I'm checking for note accuracy on longer videos I'll listen at 1.5 speed and only go back in real time if I need to correct something that they missed. You create the classes and topics (assignments) and can control whether the rest of the class can see and respond to other videos. You can also send text or video feedback to the student.

We used Vocaroo a lot during hybrid learning. It is an online website that records and you can save it as a file or even send a URL that has the recording. We did have some issues with some iPads or Chromebooks that were really old, but otherwise worked well

It is not free but the base MusicFirst Classroom provides you with the platform used by TMEA for auditions in 2020

It allows backing tracks, a metronome, etc. as needed. Everything is organized very nicely for each assignment. Works on ALL devices, including Smart Phones!

PLUS, you get the entire content library for tons of other instruction and assessment needs.

It also integrates smoothly (single sign-on) with Google Classroom and Remind.
