The sun's almost setting...

This question is for those of you who have moved on to other careers. I apologize for this as I know this has been talked about many times, but I may have missed this part of the answers.
If you are working another type of job (corporate training or such), how did you find it? Did you post your resume online? Happen to know somebody? Classified ads? (j/k). I have 1 year left until retirement and would like to see what there is out there.
Any help would be very appreciated.

I taught band for five years before I left for greener pastures. I got a developer certificate and learned how to code. I now work at a tech company where I make more than I ever did as a teacher.

I left Band Directing to represent a uniform company. It happened to be the last uniform company I made a uniform with, and had a connection already.

Once that happened, I worked for 2 different accessories and apparel companies... covid changed the companies, but am very happy with what I do now.

Word of mouth was my best connection. I do have my resume on various job boards, so I get lots of sales position offers.

it really just depends on which field you want to pursue and how connected/disconnected from the educational and music fields you want to be in.

If you know someone that can get you in the door that is your easiest route. Just like our industry networking matters and many companies like to hire from within.

If looking more broad linked in, Indeed, Monster Jobs, etc. Sign up and start searching. And get as much of your "education" experience off of resume and turn it into business speak. Best way in though is to know someone.

I am in corporate now. A friend from HS (also a band director) was working for the company I am at (she was a big deal there) and got me in before she went on to greener ($$$$) pastures.

Make a LinkedIn and apply for/search for jobs.
