What questions have you asked or been asked in an interview for an assistant band director position? Trying to prepare for the future.

Lot of good questions on here, and some I will steal.

Here's some of what I ask in my interviews:

Tell me about a situation that presented a challenge to you and how you met that issue. What would you do differently if it were to happen again today?

What do you feel has been your greatest professional accomplishment so far in your career?

What area of your teaching skills need the most improvement?

Tell me about someone in our field (MuEd) that you admire and how you emulate that person.

How do you develop the character of your students? How do you identify and grow "good band kids?"

What would your students say about you if asked?

Can you give me an example of how you demonstrated empathy towards a student or co-worker?

Lastly, and I only ask this to see if the candidate can think on their feet: Is a hot dog a sandwich?

Specific goals for 6th grade beginners at the conclusion of the first year?

Specific goals for individuals as they graduate from your band program?

Biggest blunder, what did you learn?

Greatest success, what made it a success?

End of career, what do you want said about you?

What does a typical non-varsity band rehearsal look like to you?

How do you pick appropriate repertoire for the ensemble?

What is your approach to classroom management?

(If teaching beginners)
What does a typical class look like for X instrument?

What is your definition of team teaching
What is your biggest pet peeve
What instruments other than your primary are you comfortable/not comfortable teaching at a beginner level
