You're in an at-will state. You can break the contract at any time for any reason, including no reason at all. |
That being said, your district MAY put a hold on your certification, which makes finding employment elsewhere difficult. Holds last up to the end of the school year if I recall correctly, but I may not.
Given the teacher shortage NATIONWIDE right now, schools aren't likely to be willing to play ball with someone who "got a promotion" mid-year unless there is a legitimate title or duty change. It's really going to be at the discretion of your superintendent or their designee (campus principal) or FA director if there is one.
