I appreciate what you are saying, but don't forget the other side of the coin. Like "And" said down the thread, at what point does the class splitting end? Even if we did bands based on band size, you are still going to hear directors whose groups are at the bottom of the class complain about the size of the groups at the top of the class. At what point is it due to the success or failure of the director(s) attempts to recruit that causes the discrepancy in the bands' sizes? |
I know that the topic is aimed at 6A, but there are 2A schools with 90-100 piece bands. That means that if the school is one of the smaller 2A schools, a band that size is going to have at least 90% of the total population of the school in it...and I doubt that those schools are using 8th graders. Now, that's the exception rather than the rule, but how are those directors able to recruit, and more importantly retain that many kids? Can't that also be done in larger schools?
