...Covid and consistency is part of it for sure...but us, and also our athletic department have been having high drop rates for years LONG before covid was a thing. In this area, if you have to put forth *any* effort at all...they quit; if it's a class that they are required to take...they'd rather flunk with an 8 rather than put in the work to pass with an 80. |
Think I'm being dramatic? Have another think. This spring we graduated a class where the Valedictorian had a GPA of 3.15 (on a 4.00 scale). We had to shut down our chapter of the National Honor Society because nobody could, or cared to, reach or maintain the 3.25 minimum.
The band program was started in this district in 1932. In that time, the band has had ONE Sweepstakes (1974). I've been here 5 years, and I've had to bust my @$$ to make twos...and these 5 years of twos is the best 5 year average in the band's history. I also have the second longest tenure of any director that has worked here; first place is 9 years...the director who started the program. I really don't think I can last mentally to make it another 4 years here to break the record. CAN I HAVE A JOB....PLEASE
