Percussion really small this year

We're looking at a total of 8-10 drummers for marching season. For the past several years, we've had a full battery (2-3 snares, 1-2 quads, 4-5 bass drums + marimba/vibes/bells/2 synths/aux perc. |
Covid took its toll for sure and we'll have maybe 10 drummers. Was somewhat looking at going pit-less and marching them all in battery, but our show more than ever needs to have the padding of synths and mic'd mallets.
What is the solution for a tiny battery? Like, 1 snare, 1 tenors, and maybe 1-2 bass drums? I've seen people put multiple bass drums on a rack and just have them stationary somewhere with 1 kid playing them. How viable is that? Does it guarantee us a 2 from the get-go? Will judges take that seriously?
