Chapter 2 |
After chapter 1 about my high school years here's the rest of the story. College, the rude awakening, opened my eyes to the real world. My peers called me crazy and after all these years I have to admit they were right. Like most of you I considered careers other than teaching and was reminded by my family that teaching was for people who couldn't make it in real jobs. Since no one in my family (at that time) had never finished college they considered it a waste of time and I should either join the service(avoiding Viet Nam), or get a job with a blue shirt with my name on it.
Block headed me didn't listen to any of them so here I am after 42 years of teaching, retired from band directing. I'm sharing this with you young directors so you know there is light at the end of the tunnel. Once you reach the other side of this pandemic teaching should be a desirable profession again.
