I would go Howarth on your oboes and Fox on your bassoons. Don't be afraid to spend a little more. You're not going to but many of these, and they'll usually be in the hands of your better kids. |
The student models will be really hard to play notes in the lower register, maybe not upper register. I think that the pricier bassoons might come with better bocals, but not positive on that. If you're eventually looking at adding replacing oboes, students models tend to be missing important keys (left F) and sometimes low Bb. I would not purchase a low end "student" model from any company (including fox) on oboe.
Wood is nice, but based on what you're post, I'm guessing the expense may not be worth it. Honestly, I'm not sure that I've noticed a huge difference with the recent wooden additions we've made, but I'm not going to return them
