Who's in charge here?

I just got off of a rather irritating Skype interview for a new position. Was for a HBD position. Was interviewing with the HS principal when my phone vibrated with an email. I had it set so I could see what was on the phone and still do the interview while the person on the other side of the screen couldn't see it. While speaking with the principal, she dropped something on the floor, and as she went to pick it up, I looked at the email that popped up. It was the school's DFA, thanking me for my interest in the very position that I was in the middle of an interview for, and informing me that they had presented someone to the board the night before. |
At the end of the interview, the principal asked me the standard, "do you have any questions?" question. I asked when they would have a decision. She said that the were still interviewing, but that she would be making the decision, and calling the successful candidate by Monday. I asked if I would be hearing from the DFA. She said, "No. He doesn't have the authority to make hiring decisions." I then asked her if that was the case, why did the DFA just email me saying that he had taken someone to the board the night before, and the position was filled. I then held my phone up to the camera for the principal to see, and also forwarded it to her.
So...who's the one whose supposed to make the job offers there? In any case, I don't think I want to be caught in the middle of a power struggle.
