While I think that this year will be more 'normal' than last, I also think we are not yet through figuring out what kind of weirdness is coming down the line. |
Lots or retirement age folks said, "No way," before this year started, and many more pulled the plug mid year.
Lots of movement out of metro areas, especially the 'inside the loop' areas as the temporary work from home gig became permanent.
While we have not heard about funding problems, I think many schools are looking warily at the big uptick in home schooling and private schools, especially in areas that stayed virtual for a long time (or still are). Plus the urban schools are looking at a significant number of kids that just went away. Those districts tended to stay virtual, and many kids were just not there. I know of at least one big mostly suburban metro area district that is creating a semi-probably-permanent 'virtual campus' for the significant number of students they have that are liking the freedom of virtual, and the removal of the 'social gauntlet' that many of the type of kid that thrives in the virtual environment struggles with. They don't want to come back to the 2500+ campus, and will go home school before they do that again. All of these factors may start to impact numbers, funding, scheduling, and who knows what else which could eventually become questions about staffing.
Which is to say, be even more diligent when moving and do your research.
