Flute dynamics do exist, but are much more limited in range than the rest of the instruments. Depending on the range of the music there is less or more play available on dynamic contrast too for the average player. I personally find that the make of a flute also determines how much I can project to the higher end of dynamics. (Solid Silver makes a big difference here) |
Otherwise it's the same concept as any other instrument. The airspeed has to stay up for pitch, but the volume of air you push through increases or decreases. A students aperture of their lips also has to be well in control to help out with getting softer or louder without losing tone quality.
