We're not having a band banquet this year, but the kids have suggested a band picnic, since we can have it outside. I think it's a great idea, but I have no idea what to do for one. Do you play games? Do the boosters cook hot dogs? Competitions?
Any idea you have would be greatly appreciated.

We are doing a "Non-Banquet" with burgers and hot dogs, a few "camp type" games and a short awards presentation- Sousa... announce drum majors... I think it may be really fun.

We are doing our spring concert picnic-style. I invited a few local food trucks to come out to provide food options. Most don't charge a minimum or a down payment for educational events as long as there are enough people attending. A local church agreed to host us on their lawn. There's plenty of parking space, public restrooms, electricity, and volunteer parking guides from the church.
We thought about doing games but didn't want to distract from the music too much, so we are doing a "Rock n' Roll" theme with lights (some owned by school, some donated), live sound (Personal Equipment), and passing out glow sticks for when the sun sets.
Hope that helps!

The dance team at my old school did this every year, and they did burgers and hot dogs, the awards and gifts and stuff were very relaxed compared to other "banquets". They would play volleyball, washers, cornhole, basic country folk type stuff.
