Background Checks and Applications

Hello, I am keeping my name out of this post for obvious reasons. |
I am currently student teaching and on the job hunt for my first time ever. When I was 18, I was arrested for owning a small amount of marijuana, which resulted in two charges. One of these charges was significantly more serious than the other as it was a charge for THC Oil possession, which is a controlled substance in the state of Texas, while the other charge is a low-level misdemeanor.
I spent the next two years removing these charges from my record, however, when applying for a job recently in a larger district, the misdemeanor charge appeared on my background check.
I was informed by my legal representation that background checking agencies are not required to be updated with any regularity, and that some databases may keep my information, while others may have updated so that they no longer show my charges.
What should I do? I would very much like to begin my teaching career, and don't know how I will fare with this charge popping up on my record. Will most schools throw out my application immediately? Would applying to work at schools in smaller districts be more favorable?
For those outside Texas, would schools in a state where marijuana is legal see these charges in a different light? leaving the state is something I have considered.
Thank you for any help you can provide.
