Canvas is awful and district won't allow GClassroom

Our district switched to Canvas this year from Google Classroom. Having students post recordings to Canvas and trying to sync to Skyward gradebook has been a nightmare with grades either being changed somewhere in the sync or lost altogether. Does anyone have suggestions on a better way for students to record pass-off/chair test material?

Have you looked into MusicFirst?
Every assignment has a unique web address, which you can paste into Canvas (or any other LMS your school mandates).

I grade them in Canvas, then pull up the gradebook and manually move grades into Skyward.

Same. In my Canvas gradebook it's set to complete/incomplete

Complete = 100
in Complete = not 100
-- = not done at all

I type the grade in our LMS du jour

That sounds like an issue with your own tech department, not Canvas. There is nothing unique about students recording in Canvas and grading it that would be different from any other type of assignment. If your pass back is failing, I'd call Canvas support, but also let your own tech department know.

You do have to be very specific with how you set up each assignment in order for the grades to sync properly with Skyward. Your due dates have to be within the grading period. You have to make sure the assignment is listed under a category that matches what is in Skyward. Duplicating an assignment and then making simple edits to the assignment (like material to record) could cause issues.

We’ve used Canvas and Skyward for the last two years now and haven’t had issues like OP has said. There’s also a Facebook group for Fine Arts teachers who use Canvas you can join. That’s been a big help throughout the years.

Is there a way that you can tell Skyward to not sync the grades and then just input them yourself? That's what I am doing - Eschoolplus does not sync with the Canvas gradebook at all.

The one bad thing I've seen with flipgrid is that if the student's camera is not working they cannot record. The Canvas media recording doesn't really mind if it is a video or just an audio.

2. Smartmusic, grade by hand.

3. Play live on Zoom, enter grades by hand.
