How is your staff observed?

Just curious who does the observations of your staff. Do they treat y’all like other classes? Does the head director get observed and evaluated, and who does it? How detailed do they expect your lesson plans to be? Just wondering how everyone does it.

Not 1 of my administration has observed me yet this year lol.

But in the past, they have told me they have no idea what I'm doing. They just want to make sure students are engaged and all the boxes are checked

Our AP observes the band directors. They observe us on the same "rubric" as every other teacher, but understand that there are a LOT of differences between us and a regular class.

For the students working in small groups / etc part they consider us hearing things down the row / by sections for that.

Our fine arts director does walkthroughs and formal observations. We follow a curriculum that we update every 6 weeks period to make sure we're all on the same page.

How does the 6 week curriculum work out? Do you find it successful for the classes/students/band? We currently have zero alignment and I hate it.

We team teach, 3 campuses. High school staff get observed by high school admin. Middle school staff get observed by MS admin. It's harder for MS, they expect lesson plans, TEKS, goals written on board, etc. High school just gets observed that one day, no paperwork expected.

We do T-TESS just like any other teacher in the building. Appraisers are divided alphabetically, so we all 3 have different APs who observe us. I wrote a very general, vague lesson plan that could apply to any day of the year, and posted it on the board as we're supposed to do. My appraiser didn't even look at it. I scored well and the comments were obviously copy/paste. Pronouns were mixed, there was a comment about kids working in small groups (they did not on that day). Very much a rubber-stamp process.

Teachers on a campus report to their supervisor. If your HBD is classed as an administrative position, they can evaluate their staff. If they aren't (most likely) then all evaluations come from campus principals. You have to pretty much follow the campus expectations if that's what your situation is, from implementing campus initiatives to buzzwords to lesson plans.

At a large school in DFW. Assistants are observed by an AP, the head is observed by the principal. They technically treat us like other classes, but also acknowledge the inherent differences between what we do and a gen-ed class does. It's always worked out well for us.
