Heard through the Grapevine....

All Classifications are advancing next year in marching band. Is that true? I missed the last two region meetings, can't find that written down anywhere...

Yes, and if enough HS band directors can get their superintendents (especially the 2A, 4A, and 6A schools) to see the value in going a 2nd year in a row, it might just stay that way. Now is the time to push for "every class, every year".

They made this VERY clear. It's a one-time thing. It's not going back to every year.

A survey was sent to the 2, 4, and 6A superintendents asking if they wanted to have it next year since so many schools opted out this year. The results were overwhelmingly in favor, so the word from the state office was that they are moving ahead with plans to have state for all conferences next year.

This all was in an email from the state music office to the marching band director mailing list, which consists of those who completed the required safety training this year.

It is true. The vote taken by the superintendents was vastly in favor of all the classes getting to participate next year. I gotta tell ya that I wouldn't mind doing it every year now. My band will most likely do it three years in a row (not trying to be arrogant, just know my situation). It's going to be really tough trying to get the average, every day Joe to understand why we didn't make it the year after 3 years in a row. Anybody else in this mindset? I love the momentum that making the state contest does for my program.
