Playing or sight-reading a lower level is not the only reason to take a top group as a NV. The UIL rubric starts every category with "for the classification entered." There is a different standard for a SNV vs. NV vs. V. When you go through the TMAA training. they always preface the recordings with telling you what classification a band is. |
To the OP, when I opened my school, I took the top group only, but we went as a NV. We still played above grade level, but it was a smart way to start.
