What’s the general feeling about playing selections from this work for marching band. Has it lost its appeal from being programmed so often, or does it still hold up as a competitive show?

Good music is always worth programming. Although, I feel in order to be competitive, it probably needs to be arranged to fit your band's needs/strengths.

Program what fits your band the best so that they will get the best possible sound. If it's the Planets, do it. If it is something else, do that. All the judges are supposed to be judging is how well you are performing your show, not what show you are performing.

I used the Nitsch arrangement called "Planetary Collisions" last year. My kids won the TAPPS State marching contest with it.

It’s some of the greatest music written and translates well to the field. If it fits your group, go for it! If you can put a fresh twist in it, even better!
