The problem is that "individual responsibility" is why we're in the middle of the largest outbreak since June/July. |
We have entire states (!) where they won't enforce a mask order because they're putting politics over science.
We have a governor in this state who won't even consider making masks mandatory or doing anything to slow the spread because his big-dollar backers would have to make slightly less money this year.
You can't argue personal responsibility when there is a large and vocal minority of people in this state who are content to wilfully and deliberately sicken and weaken the rest of us - especially those of us who have compromised immune systems and the elderly.
And you can say "Well, then stay home" .. and I do. But my 82 year old grandmother comes into contact with people who don't stay home while she's at her nursing home. And if she gets sick and dies from this, they'll say she had "pre-existing conditions" (she's had a heart attack before) but she could've lived years more had she not been exposed. Same with most of the people who have died. Sure, they had asthma - but that counts as a PEC which causes death, so people say "oh, they were going to get sick and die anyway" never mind that asthma is HIGHLY controllable and you can live a normal life with that affliction.
Your right to swing your arms stops at my face. If you want to go around without a mask and you want the right to make bad choices, do so IN YOUR HOME. For the rest of us, in public, wear a damn mask or stay TF home. And it's the less educated, the wilfully ignorant, and the obstinate that don't seem to understand.
