Back in March when we sent kids home and didn't hold them accountable for grades because online teaching was atrocious..... Did you really expect kids to 6 months later jump back in gung ho? Society isn't apathetic. But we have reached a level of fatigue that unless they see the adults pushing for high expectations AND exhibiting said expectations there is little hope in those around us. How many kids see the adults in their lives doing the bare minimum? Or how many never see how hard their parents truly work. How many see teachers complain and run out the door as soon as the bell rings versus those that stay and tutor and coach and support learning after school? |
I was asked the other day if I was suffering from a lack of motivation. In April the answer would have been an emphatic yes. But now that my life and work are 95% back to a REAL normal, (not this new normal BS), I have 0 motivational issues.
We do ourselves a great injustice when we put down sports. The reality is professional and collegiate athletes that are successful work incredibly hard. Even the ones we think don't. But we don't always see it and thus we think it's easy when in reality, even the most talented that make it look easy work harder than most people realize.
Be the example to your students and your community. Call out the hard workers and make work fun. Make rehearsals a place they want to be rather than someplace they have to be.
