Some directors are clueless as to manners. I always made sure the cheerleaders were not yelling (Go! Fight! When?) before starting a stand tune, just as I would expect them to not start a yell when the band is playing. If the other team is about to score, I do all I can to get them to leave the line early, but if they score, I stop my band from playing, as I would expect there director to do the same. You can be a part of the game if you have situational awareness. I had teams all turn and look at my band when we exploded just before the snap, and then, after they were moved back five yards, they would run a play towards their home bleachers. Granted, the same rules apply to HS bands as college bands, but you have to dig pretty deep in the UIL guidelines to find it, and I've never seen a penalty against a band except when we played three blind mice waiting for the refs to make up their minds on a play.|
