How’s the engagement? |
Beginners is at about 50%; the advanced bands are at nearly 100%.
Do the kids have their cameras on?
About 50%. But, if you are using Google Meet, the video will drop out if the bandwidth is not strong enough. This is affecting a lot of our kids. Plus, the kids have the option not to have their cameras on. This is for privacy issues and because some kids might be embarrassed by their home environment (very poor community).
Are they all showing?
Are they remembering to do all the asych work?
Nope. Most are thinking this is like the spring where if they did one assignment a week they were counted present the whole week. Some just don't care. We even have some who have not accepted their Google Classroom invite.
Are you playing yet with your older kids?
Sort of. We are required to do synchronous instruction no matter what. I guess admin doesn't understand about latency. So, we do half the class doing theory or counting and the last half on SmartMusic. Most don't do the SM assignment, but that is because they keep getting error on the SM end. Don't know what is going on.
When are you passing out beginner instruments?
We haven't even PLACED beginners yet. We won't do that until we begin to meet in person, and they are about to change the plan on that...again.
Are you making videos?
We will for beginners. Embouchure, how to hold the instrument, instrument care, etc. We won't for the advanced bands. For this current remote "learning" we are doing Google Slides and putting audio instructions on each slide. We only do videos on software related pieces like how to use SM or the Flat add on in Google Slides.
