I respectfully disagree. There have been numerous examples of really BAD pieces that have made it onto the PML. When I mean bad, I'm talking about bad workmanship/writing/scoring, bad editing on a transcription that even after 50 years never get corrected, etc. I'm willing to bet money that in many of those cases they got onto the PML simply on name recognition (as if even the best composer can't have a bad day at the office), or the composer was buddies with one or more of the selection committee. |
Now we have a much greater number of pieces of quality available to us, especially at the Grade 1 & 2 levels. I would take a look the pieces that aren't getting a lot of play that are still on the PML. They aren't getting played for a reason...and the reason is rarely "This isn't a good fit for my band". For a few of them, they are great pieces that are still part of an ever growing list of good pieces...but most of them are junk, and need to be taken off.
