Passive Aggressive Community Band

Anyway, the story goes...I became a member of this community band just for fun and was happy to get in and sit last chair since I was new, I just wanted to play. I was at the end of my abbreviated warmup before rehearsal, in which I play a couple of fast chromatic scales up and down two octaves and octave leaps (Just the same warmup I do at home everyday, it lets me know I'm good to go). My abbreviated version is only like a simple 3 mins btw, more like a sound check. I wasn't being obnoxious either or showing off or trying to steal someone's glory. And Half the band wasn't even there yet. |
Sooo a guy from another section randomly says "You okay?". I took it as just joking until it happened again another day from a different person when I was doing a fast tonguing exercise, same passive aggressive question, "You okay?" And then it happened again before one of the concerts doing simple long tones "You okay?" But then the guy says that the conductor doesn't like anyone to warm-up in the concert setup. (I guess at rehearsals too?, idk)
So they are discouraged from warming up? Why? I don't know. Yeah, make sense of that. Even if you say it's an etiquette thing, I've seen many professional groups sound check themselves on stage before a concert. I'd understand if I was doing the cringie "careless Whisper" theme.
Anyway...the "you okay?" PA Question/statement was too annoying, I had to ditch this band.
I have deemed them the Passive Aggressive Community Band.
"Warmup, pssht" "You think you're better than me?"
