Here's the thing though, I attended a discussion virtually with one of the grad students involved in the research. She was a clarinet player in HS (pretty sure she said All-State member) and brought some level of knowledge on that front when they were setting up the experiments. She tried playing with the bag, and while it did help, there were still aerosols coming out the hand holes. She also mentioned she didn't feel like it was a practical solution - she really didn't recommend using them. It was simply something they were sent to try.
Distance between players, good ventilation, and limiting time of exposure are the best ways to deal with mitigating the risk with those instruments. I did buy clarinet bell covers that I have not tried yet. Someone yesterday mentioned B natural (3rd line) wasn't coming out with them. I need to experiment later and see if that's the case.
