We start school in a week at my JH. I've just about convinced myself to make all my classes percussion classes, if for no other reason than breathing on me and each other isn't required. |
Maybe in 6 months when we can take a Covid shot and take off our masks, we'll pull out regular instruments and do what we can to relearn.
In the meantime, I'm thinking easy Rowloff percussion ensembles for everyone, and basic percussion for the beginners.
Parents won't have to buy anything. I could buy 40 pairs of sticks, bell mallets, those big rubber practice pads, some extra bell sets and 2 octave xyl/marimbas.
They're still learning to read music, counting rhythms, playing together, listening to the ensemble, etc. Advantages... no one is breathing on each other and it's always in tune.
Anyone else doing something unorthodox this year? Or at least until we all shut down again...
