- One of my biggest issues is not being able to separate students into smaller rooms like you can with Zoom. If it matters, you also can't do custom backgrounds. |
- I also can mute students, but can't unmute them (if I need to hear only one person I'd like to be able to allow others to talk again after hearing).
- Students being able to stay on the meeting after I've left if they still have the meeting link (big issue in our district in the Spring).
- I've had varying experiences in recording the video chat for future reference- sometimes it's flawless, other times it's not a great recording. Same and different computers.
I know that Google is SUPPOSED to be fixing some of these issues (primarily #3, it was already announced) but the speed at which it's being enabled, especially for GSuite for Education users, is glacial at best. That's one of the reasons Zoom took over so much market share (and still has it). Meet also was only free for education users, but it's free now for everybody.
They also in general haven't done much to improve the service, even back when it was Hangouts.
