I figured when I heard that part that the overwhelming majority of 5A/6A schools are in larger metro areas where the 'hotspots' are. 1A-4A are mostly more rural and isolated and not experiencing the same level of concern (I understand that your community has seen cases). Yes, I know there are lots of exceptions to both. Also, you already have a number of large, multi school (mostly 5A/6A) districts that have delayed starting or put in virtual starts with no extracurriculars until in person school starts - in one case mid October. So you would have a large number of large schools with games scheduled when they have not been able to have any in person practices. |
Short answer, it's a mess, and they are trying to make chicken...well you know the rest.
I honestly believe that they are also looking at the fact that it is still July. Plenty of time to push things back, but it is impossible to move things forward. I suspect that this is nowhere near the final word on what will be happening this fall.
