is you are probably great at networking within the uil/tmea community BUT the bottom line is that it it's always about administration and how teachers fit their campus vision? |
I moved from an assistant position to a head director position because of heavy networking with fine arts directors, other band directors yes but also but assistant supers from outside of my district and, more importantly, other school principals.
Also...being in a friday night glass house presented the opportunity because all of the opposing school principal types are usually close to the field-near us waiting for halftime so I would find out who they were plus always speak, say brief friendly things and have a quick "soundbite" about my band kids or something funny (game-related) ready to go.
it worked for me. currently, all principals from other schools plus our central admin and school board know me by name as well as I know theirs.
it's fun meeting these people and it did pay off for me.
