1 Piece or 2?

I know the obvious answer to this first question, but... Would you use a 1 or 2 piece recorder for your elementary music classes? Pros/Cons, Plastic/Wood Also, at what grade level would you begin the recorder?

I always liked the Yamaha 3 piece plastic. Very durable. I had one run over by a school bus and it only scratched it a bit. I've had trouble with some of the cheaper ones cracking around the lower holes. At small school, I started them in the 4th grade to build for band in the 5th. Really helped not only learning to read notes and rhythms but also with finger dexterity.

4th Grade is fine. 1 piece. I HIGHLY recommend the Nuvo Plus Recorders. They are super awesome! email@example.com if you have any questions

Plastic and two piece. I can take their mouthpiece away if they keep playing when they arenít supposed to, but they can still finger along with the class. I start recorders in 4th grade and band in 5th.

Plastic is lighter than wood and won't leave a mark when they hit each other with them, so the desire to do so wears off quickly. One piece removes the ability to compete in the 'how far can the top part fly' experiment.

Plastic - if these are shared recorders plastic can be cleaned much easier than wood. If they aren't shared and only one student per semester uses them they can be cleaned much easier.

I like the 3 piece with interchangeable lead pipes . Makes high register a breeze.
