Hi Yellow Board friends, |
I wanted to make a (hopefully) positive post about one of the things I've started recently in case any of you are mentally understimulated and looking for suggestions.
Here's a little backround about me... sharing just so you can read a little bit of my perspective:
I have over 12 years' of band directing experience at the middle school and high school level and a master's degree in music education. I've been a head director and an assistant band director.
Although I am busy with my family and, during the school year, coming up with relevant and rigorous socially distanced band assignments... I still felt I was missing something. A project to work on. A challenge. Especially with the Concert and Sightreading evaluation canceled, I found myself wanting more.
I decided to sign up for an online principal certification program... My rationale for this is that this program was online before Covid-19 hit; therefore, the institution has plenty of experience with managing a successful online program already.
I'm only about 3 weeks into my program but I have already found it to be VERY worthwhile and intellectually stimulating. I have been able to look more deeply within myself to analyze what I've done that's worked, what hasn't worked, and more importantly WHY. From defining what leadership is/can be to exploring conflict resolution more meaningfully, I feel like I will be a better band director (or administrator) already.
One of the things I've noticed is that the online bulletin board is beneficial. I hope you'll continue to use this board as a means to inspire others.
Good luck to you! Many of you are returning to your contract in coming weeks. All the best
