FYI, here's why you keep a social media profile active on all platforms: |
Someone ELSE can do it and pretend to be you, then YOU suffer the consequences of it. Identity theft is a real thing.
It's very, very easy to set up a "fake account" and then add friends to it - then send them an email a few weeks later saying "hey, I lost my (insert something here) can you send me some money?"
Or, better yet, someone interested in doing you professional harm can set up a profile for you on FB/IG and then put up things you don't want your name associated with - or like pages you don't want your name associated with.
HR/HCM departments regularly look at Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn accounts. They search for your Twitter. They Google your name. You want your professional online footprint to be as small and as bland as possible, unless you're doing a TON of positive things.
Keep your profiles online, don't delete anything - just let them be inactive. You're better off having social media presence that you are in control of over having none at all, or worse - a presence that someone else is controlling.
