Just a heads up- we (CCC MS) tried to use it this year and got wrists slapped by our district admin. BAND is more of a social media app and, as such, requires all users to be 13+. Since MS students are 10-14, we were not allowed to use it at all. |
I jumped in this year on the BAND app after hitting problems with Remind, and I love it. The biggest thing I've used on it is the Calendar which I have linked to a Google Calendar that I have posted on the band page of my school website. I also have my phone synced to it and the parents have the opportunity to do the same thing. I put in the schedules that I normally handed out physical copies of into the calendar entry descriptions so that everyone could have the schedule on their phones for each event.
There is a way to have people sign up to get the BAND posts as SMS messages, but I haven't experimented with that.
The other big thing I was able to streamline was concessions signup for the basketball games. It was a lot of work to get all of the games scheduled on the app, but once I did students and parents were able to sign up so my boosters that ran it were easily able to see who signed up to work and sent out updates themselves if we needed more people to sign up for a particular night that was coming up.
Remind is great for output, but the BAND app has more features. There is also a chat that can be turned off where I had parents asking questions rather than them getting my number from another parent and texting me.
We went all in with HS this year. MS stayed on Remind, which I think works at that level since there isn't as much going on. I think I'm putting them onto BAND next year so that we get more engagement on concessions signups.
