First priority for living in Houston - live close to where you work or where you have a path to work that does not involve getting on the main highways. So that is the first thing. Start with where you are working and expand from there. |
For where you are describing, look at Katy - which now can cover a huge amount of territory. If you are in the east part of Katy, also look at parts of Spring Branch, or even the west side of Houston. From Upper Kirby through West U, Bellaire, the Heights, etc. are nice and are constantly building new townhouses, condos, and other 'urban dweller' places. I'd skip over Alief, although other may disagree. You can also go south into Richmand/Rosenberg/SugarLand/Fulshear with easy access into the west side/Katy.
With that said, find a realtor that specializes in the area you want. Go to the area and look at yard signs. They will most often list the 'area specialist'. When I rented and eventually bought in the same place, my realtor lived in the neighborhood as well. They will know the individual leasers in the area and can help you a bunch.
For renting, the 'property manager' thing is getting big in Houston. One that I know about and is highly recommended is Houston 4 Lease. There are others that I am sure are good.
I'm looking for a home for this coming August. I would be interested in the Katy area or west of Houston.
Condo, small home, preferably gated. This is a wishlist, I am not familiar with Houston.
