But there are so many stipulations and because they were trying to protect small business and make such a public display about NOT protecting corporations since those corporations are seen as evil even though they employ PEOPLE depending on their size they may not be eligible for some of that. My company is local yet not eligible for much of that because we are also a nationwide company with thousands of employees. So while they put it to the corporations they really caused a lot of local employees to not have a job. I don't know that it's anybody's fault in that they tried to come up with something as fast as possible but maybe we should stop fighting about big and small companies and start thinking about individuals regardless of size, (kind of like people wanted to hit Tillman but honestly, how was he supposed to pay 40k people no matter how rich he is as an individual).... |
Not to sidetrack the discussion but yes, those travel companies are doing the best they can to still be around come June and I assure you, those travel companies are not getting rich off of your families by not refunding money they may not even be able to access depending on how they operate. They don't just hold your money. The move your money to other places per your travel....
On a personal note I was supposed to judge UIL. I am not getting paid for that gig but I am also out a plane ticket that is not refundable and won't be reimbursed because I didn't judge. Lots of people are out money. Should the region pay me for that ticket or refund the money to your program? Sometimes it isn't as simple as "give me my money".....
Last I checked the government passed a huge stimulus bill including extra money for unemployment. My parents shouldnít lose money that they NEED right now that was earmarked for judges and site rental. Commissions, sure, printing costs, okay, but donít keep it all and not provide anything of value for it. Thatís not cool.
These companies were trying to take care of their people too. Now many have been laid off or furloughed. I really don't believe they are profiting from your loss.
Just my two cents.
So I saw the writing on the wall and cancelled with my travel company early in March, right before many of my friends took their groups to Disney World. Even though we were paid in full, my tour company had only paid deposits for hotels, and buses, so it looks like we'll get almost all of our money back. If they don't go out of business I will DEFINITELY use them again next year.
My festival performance was not included though, I arranged that (around $1000) with another company that shall remain nameless. When I asked them about cancelling they pointed to the contract and that's that. My question is if I decided, screw it, everybody drive yourself to San Antonio, and we're showing up for this sucker, what would happen? The venue is closed, the judges will be in quarantine wherever they live. I can't imagine they're going to pay the judges anyway to not listen. They're not going to pay to use a venue that isn't available, so why are they keeping my money? You want to take 15% as a commission for your salesman fine, but don't keep all my money if you can't meet YOUR end of the contract!
